1. Introduction to ABC-STEEEP ꟷ Letters to the File
“For, usually and fitly, the presence of an introduction is held to imply
that there is something of consequence and importance to be introduced.”
Arthur Machen
“There is nothing more difficult to take in hand,
more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success,
than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things.”
Niccolo Machiavelli

Dr. Mike,
A letter to the file…
ABC-STEEEP ꟷ Letters to the File is a web page that is dedicated to the enabling of universal access to affordable, basic, compassionate, safe, timely, efficient, effective and equitable patient-centered care (ABC-STEEEP). The web address is ww.fixingushealthcare.com.
Dr. Mike, as this is your first letter to the file, it seems right and proper for it to serve as an introduction that orients the author and recipient (you) to your goals. As you venture forward, here is what you desire to, intend to and must keep top of mind:]
This effort is a draft book that will be posted draft chapter by draft chapter on this web page: www.fixingushealthcare.com. As a stretch goal, it may someday be published.
Your message: 1) health care in our fine country is a non-system best described politely as an unmanaged hot mess; 2) our fine country deserves better; 3) better is achievable. Stay focused on your message.
Remember that through experience, training and inclination, your words must ꟷ even when the conversation becomes energetic ꟷ remain meticulously decent, kind and respectful.
Celebrate this effort as it is the hard-won manifestation of the culmination of a year of preparation to fix our fine country’s health care. The button (Fixing US Health Care) at the upper right of the web page clicks back to your research with Dr. Stephen Hightower and Dr. Dana Kellis to which Dr. Ibrahim Ghobrial, Dr. David Lippman and Dr. Jay Stearns provided strong support. Your research continues.
Gently telling yourself the painful truth, recognize that since stepping away from the day-to-day rigors of your medical career, you have written several (seven) important, meaningful books, each with the potential to make a difference ꟷ that few have read. Therefore, this go around, write to an audience that you may have confidence will give Letters to the File a turn. Write it as important, meaningful letters to yourself hopefully anticipating that others may give your observations consideration.
Understanding your audience’s frail attention span (i.e., your own), strive to keep your messages concise ꟷ ~500-word small bites.
Encourage (hoping against hope that there will be) readers to improve your draft chapters by sharing their wisdom, insights and perceptions (their reality) about what you have right, wrong and/or omitted.
Commit yourself to staying strong. If/when dismissed as a quixotic idealist, double down and soldier on. This fine country requires universal access to ABC-STEEEP ꟷ yesterday. (410 words)
Respectfully submitted with fondest personal regards,
Dr. Mike
You may leave an anonymous comment without username and email ꟷ please do. Please share your wisdom, insights and perceptions (your reality) about what I have right, wrong and/or omitted. I will be delighted to hear from you as this draft and subsequent chapters will be significantly enhanced.
